Chelsea Bonosky grew up in Rochester, NY, studying under the mentorship of Timothy Draper, at The Draper Center for Dance Education. Upon graduating, she attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

After being an apprentice with Stephen Petronio for his Joyce Season, Chelsea performed for over four years with London based company Punchdrunk, in their immersive production of Sleep No More.

 Chelsea has been creating, rehearsal assisting, performing, and working administratively with Adam Barruch since their initial meeting at Springboard Danse Montreal in 2009. In 2016 they formed, Anatomiae Occultii, where she acts as Associate Director. She assists Adam setting company commissions (including: Gibney Dance, River North Dance Chicago, The Limon Company, Ailey II, Ballet X, Keigwin + Company) as well as university creations (New Zealand School of Dance, Princeton University, The Boston Conservatory, The Ailey/Fordham B.F.A. Program, Marymount Manhattan College, Brockport University). Together the pair has performed / held residencies at The 92Y: Buttenweiser Hall, Jacob’s Pillow: Inside/Out, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Yard at Martha’s Vineyard, Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara, and in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2012, their short-film collaboration with filmmaker Nel Shelby, Folie a Deux, was screened at the Dance On Camera Festival in Lincoln Center. The duo were also featured in two dance music videos for Tokyo based musical act mishmash* They have been working with the blessing of Stephen Sondheim to create a dance theatre production, of Sweeney Todd, that is currently in residency. Last year the pair created and performed their first site specific work, TRAUMNOVELLE to a sold out 2 week run. By popular demand the pair held a second sold out run to rave reviews, adding more shows to accommodate demand.

In 2018 Chelsea performed in and produced her first solo show, entitled LUNA, presented at The Agnes Varies Performing Arts Center in Manhattan. It was an evening of four solos she created and performed in, in collaboration with Adam Barruch, Pavel Zustiak, Gabrielle Lamb, and Mary Carter. She partnered with the phenomenal director Justin Ervin to create a site specific film centered around a her piece from LUNA created with Mary Carter. The film was chosen and screened in the ADF Movie by Movers Festival and showcased in New York City.

Chelsea is honored to be working with Margie Gillis, and The Margie Gillis Dance Foundation, performing and researching Conflict Transformation as part of The Legacy Project. 

She also works for Sarah Elgart/ Arrogant Elbow, specializing in site- specific performances and films. Ghost Story ( fashion by ISSEY MIYAKE USA, and produced by The Stephen Gassman Studios), and was screened at many film festivals including, The Cannes Film Festival and Berlin Fashion Festival. Chelsea performed in a site specific dance festival with Sarah in NYC this summer under the iconic PEPSI sign in Long Island City, and traveled with her to perform at Jacob’s Pillow in its first site based performance.

She is also a guest artist with Josh Beamish, MOVE: The Company and Gabrielle Lamb (Pigeonwing Dance).

Chelsea was honored to be invited by Alexandra Wells to teach at Hubbard Street Professional Program in the fall of 2019. Leading technique (Dynamic Sequencing), pilates, and Anatomie Occultii rep classes.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Chelsea is also a trained Pilates instructor and Reiki II certified, calling an attention to healthy functionality and emotional care of the body. She works as ambassador to The Free Body Project, working at the intersection of dance and social justice, and is a volunteer with ASTEP ( Artists Striving To End Poverty). She is a Community Actionist with Gibney, leading assemblies in schools over all 5 boroughs utilizing dance to foster healthy relationships, communication, boundaries, discuss abuse, and consent. This work is done in conjunction with Day One and the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence. Additionally, she is an active member and fundraiser for Dancers Responding to AIDS, dedicating her life to helping find a cure for the debilitating epidemic.

Chelsea is a Masters student at Fordham University’s School of Social Science, and is excited to be fusing her passion of dance, it’s transformative and healing qualities, with her intrinsic work toward equality, justice, and respect.
